“I see around me tombstones grey
stretching their shadows far away.
Beneath the turf my footsteps tread
Lie low and lone the silent dead;
Beneath the turf, beneath the mould—
Forever dark, forever cold...”

     The Ghost Whisperer Series
Morgue Mistakes from The Walk-In (Zombie) episode

  • This episode opens with Jim sliding a gurney with a zipped black body bag, possible homicide, into the back of an ambulance. Jim is not wearing gloves. This is a mistake as he has touched the body bag, gurney, and the inside door handles of the ambulance as he shut them closed. He then proceeds to shut off his bluetooth wireless headset with that same hand that just touched all of those infectious surfaces. Whatever bacteria and germs were on those items, are now not only on his hands, but also his earpiece for his phone. ..... more....

    FEATURED FICTION

    The First –   Laura Cavanagh

Julian Carteign knew that he had been abandoned, he was alone on the distant shores of a strange, uncharted world. Knowing full well the risks he had taken the expedition and he had failed. No one was coming to rescue him. He called out to the heavens for help, the heavens had a strange sense of humormore....

    Restless Souls –   Tom Bonds

The gusty wind buffets the Ford Taurus speeding down the barren, rain slicked stretch of I-94 in the after midnight hours; the windshield wipers barely keeping up with the torrential downpour. At the wheel, veteran sales rep Bob Marshall, Chicago bound; it's just another city, another convention, same old blah, blah, blah sales pitch. He could deliver it in his sleep, and probably has..... more....

A Storm in Africa –   Erik Linzbach

The day had been long, the sun had nearly completed its majestic arc over the skies of the plains when I sat in a nearly empty bar, with the only stranger being to my right. The grey tones in his beard told of his age and experience with the world, and his eyes hung gloomily just above his glass, seemingly lost forever, swimming for eternity in the scotch ocean below the rim. It was an open place and we, or rather I, looked out at the vast stretch of land before me.... more....

Time Bends Black –   Robert T. Tuohey

And so I learned that Elvis was serving time as a humming grease-monkey in a Purgatory gas station, fueling up farted-out prophets like Crowley who were en route to a fiery auto-da-fe.... more....

Respect Thy Mother  –  Don Holsten

It was a plutonian night. The usual reflections of the Italian alabaster and African ebony burl walls of my chamber were steeped in blackness. I lie still, beside the beauty of the bosom of my beloved. My beloved, the daughter of the Chaucer. My beloved, the Lady Diana. My heart excited upon her waking hours, stillness not to be attained even during her time of drowse, even though her I could not see in the darkness, the ebonic tide of night. The moon still lying beyond the mountain aręte....more....

    The Set  –  Paul Hart-Wilden

The clock was ticking. The wheels had been set in motion. 'Stop… here!' David pulled at the handle of the taxi door but it refused to open. 'C'mon!' The anxiety was clear in his voice. 'You have to pay the man!' Sheena pulled a crumpled bill out of her purse and passed it through to the driver. The light disappeared from the door. David burst out of the cab. Sheena stepped out behind him, smiling apologetically at the driver as she received her change....more....

The Dark Cult of Hisseesha  –  Adam Janus

The stomp of booted feet, and raised voices was soon followed by the clangor of steel on steel, grunts of exertion, cry's of pain and feet shuffling. Telltale sounds of street fighting as the night watch engaged a knot of loitering, drunken sailors, in their usual heavy handed, tyrannical method....more....

    The Mall  –  Kristi Lynn

Gathering strength, a barrage of mixed signals accumulated in Earl's thoughts. Soon he could only comply with the needling urgency that ate at his brain. The darkness that emanated from Earl drew the creature from its rest. After all, it had had centuries to practice its craft between hosts. Practice had grown into manipulative expertise.... more....

Coming of The Satanists  –   Norman A. Rubin

On the hot, sultry afternoon at the beginning of the summer of '99, the town was rocked by the sensational news of the discovery of the mutilated bodies of two nine-year old boys. The boys apparently were reported missing by their parents and an extensive search was in progress....more....

    GothGrrl –   taer

There you are, my little sweetheart, wearing a resurrected schoolgirl dress festooned with safety pins and thrift store belts. Aside from your splashes of blue and gray salt-and-pepper parochial school patterned skirt, you are head to clunky boots in black. Your dark brown hair, eyes and lips, all of them either tinted, outlined or shaded in some hue rich with black.... more....

    Bloodbags  –  John Cornelius

It started with blood bags from the hospital. My boyfriend worked as a hospital porter, and somehow managed to steal those transparent containers of people's blood; sometimes the substitute (which was no less good), but often the real thing. Apparently he spent some of his time in the operating theatres, garbed in plastic and well washed, cleaning up after operations. That led to fun, too, his gloved hand exploring me, caressing me....more....
